Our Promise

EdgeWhisper is built on a simple principle: your voice data is yours alone. We don't collect it, we don't process it on remote servers, and we have no way to access it. This isn't a policy choice — it's an architectural guarantee.

Data Processing

All audio capture and transcription happen entirely on your Mac using Apple Silicon's Neural Engine via the MLX framework. EdgeWhisper runs the Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime model from Mistral AI locally — an open-source model released under the Apache 2.0 license. No audio data is ever transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party. EdgeWhisper works fully offline after the initial model download from Hugging Face.

Data Collection

Voice and dictation processing remain local. For billing, collection depends on the purchase channel:

  • No audio recordings
  • No transcription text
  • No voice telemetry or cloud inference logs
  • Direct billing stores only the minimum metadata required for entitlement and support

Local Storage

EdgeWhisper stores the following data locally on your Mac in the Application Support directory:

  • Your preferences and settings
  • Personal dictionary entries
  • Custom snippets
  • Transcription history (for your review only)
  • The Voxtral Mini 4B AI model files (~3 GB)

You can export or delete all local data at any time through the app settings. Uninstalling EdgeWhisper removes all stored data.

Permissions

EdgeWhisper requires two macOS permissions:

  • Microphone Access: To capture your voice for on-device transcription. Audio is processed in memory and never saved to disk unless you enable transcription history.
  • Accessibility Permission: To inject transcribed text into other applications via the macOS Accessibility API. This is required for universal app support.

Billing Data By Channel

For direct purchases, EdgeWhisper stores customer email, purchase channel, subscription identifiers, entitlement timestamps, webhook event metadata, and support audit records. Payment card details remain with Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record.

AI Model

EdgeWhisper uses the Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime model (~3 GB on disk), downloaded once from Hugging Face. The model runs entirely on your Mac — no cloud inference, no API calls. The model is open-source (Apache 2.0) by Mistral AI, ensuring full transparency and auditability.

Third-Party Services & Data Processors

EdgeWhisper uses no third-party analytics, crash reporters, or ad networks for dictation. The website direct-sales flow additionally relies on the following processors:

  • Clerk (clerk.com) — Admin authentication for the backoffice panel only. No end-user authentication data is stored.
  • Lemon Squeezy (lemonsqueezy.com) — Merchant of record for direct purchases. Processes payment card details, issues invoices, and handles refunds. We never see or store your full payment card number.
  • Google Cloud Platform (cloud.google.com) — Hosts the website and stores billing metadata in Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL). Data resides in the selected GCP region.
  • Google Tag Manager — Used on edgewhisper.com only, loaded after you consent to analytics cookies. No tracking occurs without your explicit consent.
  • Hugging Face (huggingface.co) — Hosts the Voxtral Mini 4B model files for the initial one-time download. No personal data is exchanged.

Cookies & Tracking

The edgewhisper.com website uses the following categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the site to function (e.g., Clerk session cookie for admin login). These are always active and cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Google Tag Manager may set cookies for anonymous usage analytics (page views, referral sources). These are only loaded after you explicitly consent via the cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the cookie settings link in the site footer.

The EdgeWhisper macOS application does not set or read any cookies.

Data Retention

  • Voice & transcription data: Never leaves your device. Retained locally until you delete it.
  • Billing metadata (direct): Retained for the duration of your subscription plus 3 years for legal and accounting compliance.
  • Webhook event logs: Retained for 2 years for dispute resolution and support audits.
  • Support records: Retained for the duration they remain relevant, then anonymised or deleted.

Your Rights (GDPR / RGPD)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar data-protection laws, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: Ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to restrict processing: Ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing.
  • Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent (e.g., analytics cookies), you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

Legal Basis for Processing

We process personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: To fulfill your subscription, deliver your license key, and provide customer support.
  • Legitimate interest: To secure and improve our website and services, prevent fraud, and maintain audit logs.
  • Consent: For analytics cookies and any optional marketing communications. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation: To comply with tax, accounting, and other regulatory requirements.

Children's Privacy

EdgeWhisper is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
