Getting Started

Download from the Mac App Store

Search for "EdgeWhisper" on the Mac App Store or click the download button on our homepage. EdgeWhisper requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later and any Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3, M4).

Grant permissions

EdgeWhisper needs two permissions: Microphone (to capture your voice) and Accessibility (to inject text into apps). You'll be guided through granting these during first launch. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security to manage them.

Download the AI model

On first launch, EdgeWhisper downloads the Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime model (~3 GB) from Hugging Face. This is a one-time download. After this, EdgeWhisper works fully offline.

Start dictating

Press your dictation shortcut (default: double-tap Fn or a custom hotkey), speak naturally, and watch your words appear in any app. EdgeWhisper automatically detects your language from 13 supported languages.

Troubleshooting

Microphone not working

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Ensure EdgeWhisper is toggled on. If it's already enabled, try toggling it off and on again. Check that the correct input device is selected in EdgeWhisper's preferences.

Text not appearing in apps

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Ensure EdgeWhisper is toggled on. If it's grayed out, remove EdgeWhisper from the list and re-add it. Restart EdgeWhisper after making changes.

Model download stuck or failed

Check your internet connection. The Voxtral model is ~3 GB and may take several minutes to download. If the download fails, restart EdgeWhisper to retry. Ensure you have at least 4 GB of free disk space.

High memory or CPU usage

Ensure you have at least 8 GB of RAM. Close memory-intensive apps (e.g., Chrome with many tabs). The AI model uses Apple Silicon's Neural Engine for efficient processing. Restarting EdgeWhisper can resolve temporary spikes.

Transcription accuracy issues

Speak clearly and at a natural pace. Reduce background noise if possible. Check that the correct language is selected or that auto-detection is enabled. Using an external microphone can improve accuracy in noisy environments.

App not launching or crashing

Ensure you are running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. Try deleting and reinstalling EdgeWhisper from the Mac App Store. If the issue persists, contact us at contact@elitizon.com with your macOS version and Mac model.

Free Tier

EdgeWhisper offers a free tier with 5 minutes of transcription per day — no account, credit card, or sign-up required. The free tier includes full AI model access, all 13 languages, and text injection into any app.

Pro Plan

The Pro plan ($7.99/month or $79.99/year) unlocks unlimited transcription, the full snippet library, advanced post-processing, and priority model updates. Subscriptions are handled entirely through Apple's App Store.

Managing Your Subscription

  • Open the App Store app on your Mac
  • Click your name in the bottom-left corner → Account Settings
  • Scroll to Subscriptions → click Manage
  • Find EdgeWhisper and choose to change or cancel your plan

You can also manage subscriptions via System Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases.

Refund Requests

Since subscriptions are processed by the App Store, refund requests must be submitted through Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund from Apple.

How do I set up EdgeWhisper for the first time?
After downloading EdgeWhisper from the Mac App Store, launch the app and follow the onboarding wizard. You'll be prompted to grant Microphone access and Accessibility permission in System Settings. EdgeWhisper will then download the Voxtral Mini 4B AI model (~3 GB) from Hugging Face — this is a one-time download. Once completed, you're ready to dictate.
EdgeWhisper isn't transcribing my voice. What should I do?
First, check that Microphone access is granted: go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and ensure EdgeWhisper is enabled. Next, verify your input device is correctly selected in EdgeWhisper's preferences. If the issue persists, try restarting the app. Make sure the Voxtral AI model has finished downloading (check the status indicator in the menu bar).
Text isn't being inserted into my application. How do I fix this?
EdgeWhisper requires Accessibility permission to inject text into other apps. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and ensure EdgeWhisper is toggled on. If it's already enabled, try removing it and re-adding it. Some apps may also require you to focus a text field before dictating.
How do I change the dictation shortcut?
Open EdgeWhisper from the menu bar, go to Preferences → Shortcuts, and click on the current shortcut to record a new one. The default shortcut is a double-tap of the Fn key or a customizable global hotkey.
How much storage does EdgeWhisper need?
EdgeWhisper itself is a small download from the App Store. The Voxtral Mini 4B AI model requires approximately 3 GB of disk space, downloaded once from Hugging Face. Total storage requirement is around 3.5 GB.
Can I use EdgeWhisper without an internet connection?
Yes. After the initial one-time model download, EdgeWhisper works entirely offline. No internet connection is needed for dictation, transcription, or any other feature. All AI processing happens locally on your Mac.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
EdgeWhisper subscriptions are managed through the Mac App Store. To manage or cancel: open the App Store app → click your name in the bottom-left → Account Settings → Subscriptions → EdgeWhisper. You can also manage subscriptions in System Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases.
Which languages does EdgeWhisper support?
EdgeWhisper supports 13 languages with automatic detection: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Hindi. You can switch languages mid-sentence.
How do I uninstall EdgeWhisper and delete all my data?
To uninstall, drag EdgeWhisper from the Applications folder to the Trash. This removes the app and all associated data, including settings, personal dictionary, snippets, and transcription history. The AI model files in Application Support will also be removed. No data is stored externally.
EdgeWhisper is using too much CPU or memory. What can I do?
The Voxtral AI model uses Apple Silicon's Neural Engine for efficient processing. Ensure you have at least 8 GB of RAM available. If you experience high resource usage, try closing other memory-intensive applications. You can also check EdgeWhisper's preferences for performance settings. On Macs with 8 GB RAM, closing large applications like Chrome can significantly improve performance.
